Embrace the Unspoken // Sylvestre Gauvrit
"I hope my artworks serve as a gateway to heightened consciousness, evoking a sense of awe, and encouraging the significance of embracing the present moment."
Sylvestre Gauvrit (1977, FR) was born in the forests around Moulins, France. As a child, he spent most of his time climbing ancient oaks and observing nature, while later in life he traveled the world surfing waves. Sylvestre possessed a natural inclination towards sculpture and could always be found with tools in hand and his imagination running wild. He received his education at the Accademia Belle Arti of Carrara and went on to work in various institutional art studios in Pietrasanta, where he developed his skills as a sculptor. He has mastered not only purely manual techniques with chisel and hammer, but also the state-of-the-art 3D computer techniques used to shape the material. He enters his sketches digitally and then the material can be modeled in minute detail with sophisticated tools.
In his designs, Sylvestre explicitly chooses flowing, organic forms. He experiences these forms in nature, in human movements and in the shapes and patterns evoked by the natural elements of air, water and fire. The sculptor usually uses marble or stainless steel, the perfect material to give spatial form to these movements. The new technical possibilities he applies allow him to give the material a flowing form rather than leaving traces from the process of chopping, chiseling and sanding.
Sylvestre's work exudes an almost natural ease as the lines and surfaces flow and swirl. A quality found in both his small works and his monumental sculptures. Sylvestre's unique sculptures grace both public and private collections in major cultural centers across the globe, including Paris, London, Rome, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, and Dubai.
