The craft of painting par excellence is central to Reinoud van Vught (1960, NL) in his artistic approach. The process he uses when he uses the different painting materials and techniques and the chosen bases on which he works is as important to the painter as the final result. The outcome of this, the course of which depends both on chance factors and on deliberate interventions by the artist himself, has not yet been determined in advance. For example, the results of the drying process of certain paint surfaces and their reactions to other colors and materials in the painting can strongly determine the next steps towards completing the work.
Reinoud van Vught is fascinated by the organic processes in and of nature and he considers painting as an equivalent to this. In addition, themes such as life and death from a spiritual and in a certain sense also religious experience play an implicit role in his work.
Reinoud van Vught was born in 1960 in Goirle, Brabant, and studied Monumental Painting at the Sint Joost Academy of Visual Arts in Breda from 1979 to 1985. In 1994-1995 the artist had access to the guest studio of Museum De Pont in Tilburg.
