On Sunday, January 29, MPV Gallery opens the solo-exhibition PURE, featuring an extensive and diverse collection of work by acclaimed photographer Marc Lagrange. We present work from the various photographic series that summarizes his career, including Senza Parole, Chocolate, Chateau Lagrange, Diamonds and Pearls, Lust, Polarized and the Platinum Collection.
Marc Lagrange is known for his aesthetic nude photographs of women, yet he did not like being called a “nude photographer. Nude was not a goal for him, but an aesthetic choice. Marc Lagrange did much more than just taking pictures. Decor and setting were largely by his direction; he collected vintage accessories and played with different textures and backgrounds. Marc Lagrange tried to seek a certain intimacy in his models; to bring out a sense of what’s inside. He needed to feel a connection with his models, which is why he sometimes worked with the same women for 10 to 15 years. He was a perfectionist, someone with an unstoppable vision. He could put a full day’s work into one image.
Lagrange was born in Kinshasa, Congo, in 1957. Educated as an engineer , Lagrange chose photography as his profession in 1991, preferring analog to digital. His big break-through came in 2006 with his exhibition Chateau Lagrange at the Antwerp Photography Museum FOMU.
