Aron Demetz

28 July - 3 September 2018
Overview

From Saturday 28 July, the work of the Italian sculptor Aron Demetz can be viewed at MPV Gallery Knokke. During Nacht van Het Zoute, a glamorous late night shopping event, which traditionally takes place in Knokke on the first Friday of August, the exhibition of Aron Demetz will be festively opened.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Aron Demetz was born in 1972 in Sterzing in South Tyrol, northern Italy. A place in the Dolomites surrounded by woods and forests. He grew up close to nature and working with wood is a discipline that is naturally practiced by many in the area.

The human form is the main motif of his work. Initially, he cuts these with a chainsaw from huge trunks and blocks of cedar, maple or walnut wood, after which he processes the wood and refines the images. By grinding, sanding or carving, he gives the 'skin' of the image different structures. The images thus acquire their own surface structure, as a result of which the figures are, as it were, personalized.
