Timeless: Marc Lagrange
"A rendezvous with Marc Lagrange."
Belgian master photographer Marc Lagrange, born in Kinshasa in 1957 and tragically deceased in 2015, left behind a body of work that honors the sculptural beauty of the human body. His work exudes both sensuality and aesthetics, which merge in perfect harmony in his photography. Ten years after his death, his legacy is alive and well. In fact, his mastery is more relevant than ever.
Ode to beauty
Marc Lagrange's iconic black-and-white images, often shot on analog film, balance between classic and modern, between mystery and exposure. There is no doubt that he found inspiration in the Italian Renaissance, in Fellini's cinematography, and in the refined elegance of masters such as Helmut Newton and Paolo Roversi. But where others stopped at visual beauty, Lagrange sought something deeper: the soul behind the form, the strength behind the vulnerability.
His most famous work is collected in the book Senza Parole (2012), the ultimate proof of his craftsmanship. In it, he not only shows the female body, but also gives it form, like a sculptor bringing his marble masterpiece to life. The combination of light, texture, and an almost tangible three-dimensionality make his work unmistakable. You can recognize a Lagrange from a thousand others.
A tribute to the master
Fifteen years ago, art dealer Mark Peet Visser entered into a collaboration with Marc Lagrange. It became a partnership that is now finding its ultimate symbiosis. MPV Gallery honors the photographer with an exclusive retrospective exhibition: “Timeless by Marc Lagrange.”
From July 6 to September 20, 2025, MPV Gallery in Oisterwijk will not only showcase Lagrange's most famous works, but also images that have never been shown before. “His work is like a sonata in images,” says Visser himself. 'It has that elusive quality, that 'je-ne-sais-quoi' that distinguishes true art from the rest. Its magic lies in its power, dignity, and intimacy.'
MPV Gallery is the exclusive representative of Studio Marc Lagrange in the Netherlands. Art lovers and collectors can find both iconic and rare works by the master here.
