ABOUT MPV GALLERY
MARK PEET VISSER

MPV Gallery (Mark Peet Visser Gallery) is an internationally operating contemporary art gallery and modern art dealer. Since its establishment in 1992, we strive to bring together contemporary and modern art in a way that shows the two are mutually reinforcing.

The gallery represents and collaborates with over forty (inter)national artists of all media, including painting, sculpture, and photography. Works of emerging artists are presented alongside mid-career and established artists. Active in both the primary and secondary markets, MPV Gallery offers a unique selection of collectable artworks carefully selected by gallery owner Mark Peet Visser.

UPDATE | Andy Warhol's Reigning Queens
Two stolen artworks found and recovered

Positive news after the gallery heist on the 1st of November. Two of Andy Warhol's four 'Reigning Queens', which were targeted in the robbery, have been recovered and restored.

During the robbery a complete series of 'Reigning Queens', each in a 12th edition of 40, were taken from our gallery. When the robbers ran out of time because the frames of the artworks were too heavy and did not fit in the car, they left two of the four works in the street. Inspection by experts revealed that these two abandoned works are undamaged. Thanks to the framing, the works came out of the battle unscathed. It concerns Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands (Edition 12/40), and Queen Ntombi Twala of Swaziland (Edition 12/40).

Thanks to swift action of the police, a 23-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody. The two artworks that were stolen from the gallery have not been recovered.

BAS GEERTS

We introduce you to a new artist at MPV Gallery: Bas Geerts. Bas Geerts, born in 1971 in Leiden, is a visual artist, music programmer and writer. His work is characterized by an openness of form, a kind of agility that manifests itself on several levels simultaneously.

In the first place, there is the play of colors. Bright hues enter into a synthesis and optically merge into new shades. Each color seems in motion and seems to want to assimilate with its complement - no doubt also the result of using pure pigments in paint made by Geerts himself.

Secondly, the painting itself seems to change according to the position the viewer takes in relation to the work: is he looking at the canvas at an angle or straight, is he standing near or far? The reflection of the metal sheet will constantly change, while at a distance, the lines of the composition, still clearly discernible up close, merge into a continuous whole.

In addition to color, the openness of form is reflected in the way the composition of the paintings is created.
