Rachid Assoui (born in Marrakech), first moved from his home country Morocco to Venezuela to finally land in Amsterdam, where he found the right atmosphere to live the life he wanted and to start creating his couture fantasies. The liberal and cultural climate of The Netherlands gave him the right homebase for his work, which started with his first collection and couture show ‘Beautiful Shining Black Crow’ in 2013, followed by ‘Le Reve Orientaliste’ in 2014 and ‘Empires of the Silk Road’ in 2015. Extreme silhouettes, rich fabrics and a journey between cultures, historical and futuristic fantasies and strong female and androgyneous elements make his work known and wanted by entertainers and strong figures from the field of art, media and glamour.
