“To me, light is an endless inspiration.”
The visual and transformative qualities of light, color, reflection and movement form the central theme in the work of light artist Hans Kotter (1966, DE). He forms boxes or tubes from mirrors, plexiglass, stainless steel or reflective photographic color recordings and in and on them, light beams that change color are projected. Kotter focuses on its physical and artistic qualities, creating colorful and graphic virtual sculptures with a rhythmic structure.
The experience of a space constantly changes due to a varying reflection of these phenomena. On both a large and small scale, he creates works whose appearance does not depend so much on specific physical matter as on the perception of the viewer. For example, he can create a virtual sculpture of light, color and movement in large spaces or build an object of changing lines and color bars. The viewer is thus placed in a dialogue of space and light in which concepts such as tangibility and infinity become relative.
