Arnout Visser NL, b. 1962

Arnout Visser (1962, NL), best known for his glass objects, experiments with elementary physical laws, actions and processes that give materials a shape and thus arrives at unique forms.

Arnout Visser says about himself and his work: "I am a form seeker with a passion for glass and I develop concepts that I then translate into a design. I like working with glass: with a good glass blower and a sharp idea you can make the most beautiful things. No other material has this quality and glass has spectacular physical shapes and properties. At room temperature it is hard, but above 700 degrees Celsius it becomes soft and malleable, and then you can shape and blow it, resulting in complete, transparent volumes without fittings, so that a concept such as a clock can be realized in glass. After it has been blown into shape, the glass must cool very slowly, otherwise it will crumble into pieces before your eyes.

Arnout Visser graduated from the 3D Design - now Product Design - department of ArtEZ in Arnhem in 1989 and subsequently studied at the Domus Academy in Milan.
